The Estibot appraisal engine is designed for website appraisal, not for domain name appraisal. Why?

Take a look at the factors they use, that affect the outcome . . .

Domain:     ToursDeals.com
Keywords     tours deals
Frequency (MSN)     43400
Backlinks     0
PageRank     0
Alexa Rank     Not Ranked
Traffic (Visits / Day)     0
New! Estibot    TotalSearch™ Data:
TotalSearches™     1280 /mo
TotalCompetition™     0/10 ads
TotalCPC™     $2.00 MaxBid

http://EstiBot.com Domain Appraisal USD 1,700

Frequency (MSN)? I don’t know what this means? If it is the number of results, then it is 125,000,000. (1-10 of 125,000,000 results) any one of you have an idea what this could mean?

Back links, page rank and Alexa Rank are nothing to do with Domain Name appraisals. So it is wrong to base the domain price based on Estibot appraisal. Estibot may be OK for website appraisal.

There is no norm on defining domain name price. Generally, its valuable as much as the buyer is willing to pay.

Now, I am not satisfied with that! Sound good. Not useful.

Both are beautiful. Yet different

Both are beautiful. Yet different

Let’s do some math with Estibot numbers!

TotalSearches X CPC X RIO = Selling price
In general Domainers could agree on a 6 months ROI, thus translates the domains price to
1280 X $2.00 X 6 = $15,360.00

This is the basic, there are other factors affect a domain’s price. Brand-ability and Remembering factor are among them.

Brand-ability is some thing like beauty. It depends on the pair of eyes looking at it. The same applies to domain name brand-ability. One may think it is the foxy name while other may think not so.

Any one of you have a logic to calculate Domain Name value? Do you think otherwise? Share with us!

Hello there,

To those who think there is no great deal with single word genetic domain name, here is what I got. I bought “foreigners.us” at epik for just US $2. it is below domain registrar’s registration price.

Why would be some one sell a domain like that?

The seller was hoping for more interested parties would bid on that domain. Unfortunately for them and fortunately for me, the name wasn’t marketed properly. Simply, no one did knew of this auction.

I wasn’t thinking that I will win this auction either. But only after Rob posted about it in the chat window, I realized it.

rob: nsathees just got a screaming deal. $2 for foreigner.us. My goodness.

So, keep your eye wide open for deals. Have a great day!

Hello there!

Over at rick’s blog domainers discuss of the upcoming Auction of Rio.com. Speculations are high as 3 plus millions while Brazil.com sold in the recent past for 500K.

The argument for millions is that the sale was closed before Brazil won the Olympic. So that the potential is mush higher now. There could e other arguments such as Rio is 3 letter domain and Brazil is 6 letter. Brazil has a crack as could be easily misspelled like Brasil.com or Bracil.com

Lets look at the current numbers. The Google trend favors Rio too . . .

Google trend for Rio and Brazil

Google trend for Rio(blue) and Brazil(red)

Now let’s look at the searches.

Brazil is searched 673k and Rio tails at 246k. Now this number could change with Olympics.

My numbers point towards 658K. So what do you folks think? place your number in rick’s blog comment to win a entrance to T.R.A.F.F.I.C 2010 here

Once the current financial crisis comes to and end and consumer confident turns in the right direction many businesses especially the small to medium enterprises will turn to online marketing. Why? Since, it will reduce the cost while boosting the leads at a fraction of their current cost.

That is great news for Domainers. Here I have to input my 2 cents advice to Domainers. Do not over price your domains. It will keep the potential buyers away from you while they will search for alternative.

Unless you have the category killer name, the buyer is not going to pay the premium you expect. If you are approached by an end use, you should know that you will be paid a nice sum for your domain. So think twice before rejecting any sale.

My expectation is that by middle of 2010, Domainers will realize the heat in this industry. Stay tuned . . .

Branding a name in your favorite niche is time consuming and costly business.

Often the user name for social network are under estimated. Think of branding DomainName.com and not having the user name DomainName to twitter or Facebook. Let alone not forget the Gmail, hotmail and yahoo mail.

  • DomainName@DomainNames.com
  • DomainName@gmail.com
  • DomainName@hotmail.com
  • DomainName@yahoo.com
  • http://twitter.com/DomainName

Am I missing anything here?

Isn’t it important to have all these matching names before spending time and money on Branding it? How many of those brand managers think in advance and secure these names? I doubt not many. If you are in the branding business, then this  2 cents advise is for you.
