Nothing ever goes away
I want to share the current situation in and around Jaffna just before the local goverment poll due on July 23, 2011.
I moved to Jaffna with my family in Oct. 2010. Since March of this year I am living in Temple Road. Close the Nallur Temple. Kids joined St. Johns and Chundukkuli. Enrolled in English medium but struggling to cope with the teachers as they speak poor English.
There are too many SUV’s roaming the roads of Jaffna City as the ruling party is hell bent on winning this poll. A victory to the UPFA would mean so much as the ruling party faces many problems locally and internationally. But, in my opinion that is not possible. TNA is to grab the victory if the election is conducted fairly. Is it conducted fairly? That’s the million dollar question!
On Sunday, July 17th 2011, Petrol ran out in Jaffna. I visited many petrol sheds wasting the reserve fuel I had in my tank. Two days after, I still have my tank empty. The last time I fueled the bike, it was sub standard fuel. You may have been informed about it in the media. Some how my bike managed to survive the nasty fuel even though many engine miss.
I did not hear much on TNA election campaign as they are getting some trouble from the ruling party + Military on campaigning. Is that true? I don’t know. Possibility yes.
The UPFA posters potriat the president, his brother Basil and minister Douglas. Slogan, “Join us for Development and Political Solution”.
Development is done in the expedited parse, but NOT in north. That’s in Hambanthodda! Jaffna City still experiences many power failure daily. Not all roads are free on pot holes! Just a couple of main roads are done and there is definitely motives behind it. In my opinion the development in the North is not happening!
Military presence is visible all over the North, but they do not interrupt the day to day life. Still, I wish them to go back to their barracks than to guard the trees. Many Buddhist Temples mushroomed where ever there is a Bodhi tree. That is some thing need attention. I am not against Buddhism, but these Temple will create a problem in the future as they did not thoroughly think of the location of these Temples.
I also have to complain about the Tamils and their habits. First I want them to be educated in obeying the road rules. The traffic and vehicle count has increased dramatically and the people need to follow the road rules. Bet me on this! The Tamils here are the utmost selfish creatures and the mega ripoff people. Beware if you deal with them!
